Germany Thrash Scotland 5 1 In Euro 2024 Opener

Germany Thrash Scotland 5-1 in Euro 2024 Opener

Hosts Kick Off Tournament in Style

Germany thrashed 10-man Scotland 5-1 as the Euro 2024 hosts kicked off the tournament in style in Munich on Friday. Julian Nagelsmann's side dominated from the start, with Florian Wirtz firing them ahead in the 10th minute. Kai Havertz doubled their lead on the half-hour mark, before Wirtz added his second on the stroke of half-time.

Scotland's hopes were dealt a further blow when Scott McTominay was sent off early in the second half. Germany took full advantage, with Timo Werner making it 4-0 in the 55th minute and Leroy Sané completing the rout in the 70th.

Conclusion

The win was a convincing statement of intent from Germany, who look like one of the favorites to win Euro 2024. Scotland, meanwhile, will be disappointed with their performance, but they can take some solace from the fact that they were playing against one of the strongest teams in the tournament.
